  • Braces

    Common enquiry

Braces are a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct teeth that are crowded, crooked, out of alignment or have irregular spacing.

By moving the teeth into the ideal position, braces can help create more attractive and functional smiles for both children and adults.

    Braces can benefit customers by:

    • straightening teeth to create a more attractive smile
    • reduce crowding to enhance improved oral hygiene, which leads to reduced tooth decay and risk of gum disease
    • increasing the ability to speak and chew properly
    • reducing head and jaw aches due to bite correction and increased functionality

  • CBCT 3D Imaging

CBCT 3D Imaging is a technique using X-rays to take up to 600 3D images from the neck up.

Customers typically stand while the machine performs a single rotation around their head in 10-15 seconds. This allows for 3D visualisation of the teeth, jaws and face, providing dentists with more information to help with precise diagnosis for treatment planning.

A dental CDCT may be used by dentists for a number of purposes:

    • dental implant planning
    • evaluating abnormal teeth, jaws and face
    • assessment of the cleft palate
    • diagnosis of cavities, root canals and dental trauma.

  • Dental Implants

At Totally Smiles, we use state-of-the-art technology that ensures we’re leading the way in dental care and comfort. We offer the most advanced dental solution for people wanting to replace their missing tooth or teeth — dental implants.

    What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a long-term solution for tooth or teeth replacement. They are made of biocompatible titanium and are inserted surgically so that it fuses with the jawbone. This process is called “osseointegration”. Like the roots of natural teeth, they provide a permanent anchor for replacement teeth, including crowns and bridges.

    When are dental implants used?

Dental implants may be an ideal solution for people who have lost one or more teeth due to tooth decay or injury. Candidates for implants should be in good general and oral health and have adequate bone in the jaw to support the implant.

    What are the benefits?

Implants provide a number of important cosmetic and functional benefits:

    • They are a permanent solution, providing teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth.
    • They do not slip, so there is no discomfort or embarrassment.
    • You can clean implants along with natural teeth.
    • Implants are strong enough to provide a reliable foundation for chewing.
    • They prevent bone loss and maintain the jawbone’s shape and density. This ensures the integrity of the facial structure and facial appearance.
    • Implants do not compromise the health of surrounding teeth, unlike traditional options such as bridges.

    Considerations

Implants may not be for everyone. If you have brittle, damaged jaw bones or bone loss and some general health issues, you may find that they are not the best solution for you.

We are proud of our dentists who are ethical and honest. You can rely on us to provide you with clear explanations about your options so that you can make informed decisions that are right for you and your oral health.

  • Frenectomy

A frenectomy is a procedure where an irregular frenum (pronounced free-num) is removed to help preserve oral health.

The frenum is the tissue that connects the gum to the lip — you can feel it when you put your tongue inside your upper or lower lip. A frenectomy is recommended for everyone with an abnormal frenum and is commonly corrected in babies and toddlers.

    An abnormal frenum can cause:

    • pain and chewing difficulties
    • breastfeeding problems
    • decay and bad breath
    • speech issues
    • difficulties brushing and flossing
    • cosmetic problems

  • Invisalign and ClearCorrect

    Common enquiry

At Totally Smiles, we believe that every smile makes a statement. You can be confident yours will say exactly what you want with straight even teeth, thanks to Invisalign and ClearCorrect.

    What are Invisalign and ClearCorrect?

Gone are the days when metal braces were the only choice to straighten teeth. Clear aligners have gained popularity, thanks to innovations like Invisalign and ClearCorrect. These solutions offer straight teeth without brackets and the wires, using a series of custom-made clear aligners that are also removable.

    How do aligners work?

Aligners, like traditional braces, gradually shift teeth until they are in the ideal position. Our experienced dentists, using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, map out the entire alignment process and create a sequence of slightly different trays corresponding to the slight adjustments your teeth will make. These trays are computer-generated based on images and models of your own teeth so you can be assured that these will have a perfect fit for you and only you. Each aligner then needs to be worn for a specific period of time before moving on to the next set.

    Why choose aligners?

    • Aligners are virtually invisible, making them a discreet option.
    • Unlike traditional braces, aligners have no rough edges or wires, making them more comfortable to wear.
    • You can remove them to eat or clean your teeth, which makes it easier to maintain good oral health.
    • Appointments are faster and more comfortable.

    Are they suitable for me?

Aligners may be the ideal solution for correcting mild to moderately crowded or incorrectly spaced teeth. For serious underbites or overbites, traditional braces may be required.

Due to their tight fit, aligners are usually recommended for teenagers and adults and not children.

Our trustworthy team are always on hand to give you clear explanations about your options so that you can make informed decisions that are right for you and your oral health.

  • Retainers

At Totally Smiles, we believe that every smile makes a statement. You can be confident yours will say exactly what you want with straight even teeth, thanks to orthodontics.

    What are orthodontic retainers?

Orthodontic or dental retainers are designed to keep your teeth where your previous braces or aligners moved them. This stage of the orthodontic treatment is equally important as teeth need time to settle into their new position, and retainers prevent them from moving back into the old position. Thus, wearing a retainer as your orthodontist recommends gives you the best chance at ensuring your teeth stay straight and healthy.

    Types of retainers

As with teeth realignment, there are also fixed and removable retainers available. Our experienced team will recommend the most suitable one according to your unique needs, together with how long and how often you should be wearing it.

    Retainer Care Tips

Retainers are subject to wear and tear and proper care should be exercised to prolong their life. Here are some tips to care for a removable retainer:

    • Always keep your retainer in its container or soak it in water/a cleanser tablet when you are not using it.
    • Clean it after every meal.
    • Don’t place your retainer in hot water, in direct sunlight, or near a heat source.
    • Remove it before playing sports.
    • Contact your orthodontist immediately if you notice the retainer losing its shape or isn’t fitting correctly.

    For a fixed retainer:

    • Pay extra attention to oral hygiene as a fixed retainer can be a food/plaque trap. Your orthodontist will demonstrate how to brush your teeth and floss properly.
    • Protect it from damage by avoiding hard or sticky foods as these can potentially break or damage the wires.
    • Contact your orthodontist immediately if you notice something amiss, such as the retainer feeling loose.
    • Be conscientious about your dental appointments, whether with the orthodontist or the twice-a-year regular check-ups.
