Nitrous oxide, commonly known as "happy” or “laughing gas," has been proven to reduce anxiety for most dental procedures. It is a mild form of sedation that flows through a comfortably fitting mask that rests over your nose and is a mixture of nitrous oxide and pure oxygen that doesn’t smell and creates a feeling of relaxation during treatment.
This feeling of relaxation that can make ordinary things seem funnier, thus the nickname happy gas.
This is considered a “mild” sedation, so you won’t experience any short-term memory loss as you may with other forms of sedation, and once turned off, the sedation wears away very quickly with no lasting effects.
