CEREC

At Totally Smiles, we take a pioneering stance and are always challenging the status quo to continually find ways to deliver exceptional dental care to all Australians. To this end, we use modern techniques and equipment such as CEREC One-Visit Crowns and Inlays to give you a smile that is like new again.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is sophisticated digital technology including a camera, design software, and milling machine. If you are wondering where the word comes from, it is an abbreviation of CERamic REConstruction.

It provides us with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacture (CAM) technology right in our surgery, enabling us to offer you the convenience of having your crown or inlay in just one visit.

What are the benefits of this technology?

  • You can have your crown or inlay in one visit. No return visit means less time off work or study or away from family.
  • Only one visit means only one injection.
  • No dark lines or metal under the crown/inlay.
  • Fit and performance that conventional crowns and inlays can’t match.

New technology for a strong, beautiful new tooth

After you have a CEREC crown or inlay, your restored tooth will have up to 95% of the strength it had before. Ceramic crowns and inlays are colour-matched to your own teeth to give a beautiful, natural-looking result.

CEREC vs. traditional restorations

In most cases, a CEREC-designed and -made crown/inlay will be suitable and can be made and fitted in one visit. However, there are some cases when a traditional crown or inlay may be the best option. These are made in a laboratory that is typically in a different location from the dental practice. Because of this, you will usually need two appointments that are two weeks apart.

We take a “no surprises” approach and our trustworthy team will always give you clear explanations about your options before drawing up a treatment plan suited to your unique needs.

Contact your local Totally Smiles practice to find out if CEREC is suitable for you, or book an appointment online now.
