27 April 2020: COVID-19 Update – Practice Closures

Posted on May 1st, 2020

Dear Valued Patients

We understand that most of you, like us, have had some very difficult months recently as each and everyone of us has been impacted by the alarming spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is affecting our lives. The Federal Government this week eased dental restrictions, allowing dental practices to commence operating under level 2 restrictions as outlined in the ADA COVID-19 guidelines from Monday 27 April.

Our highest priority is, as always, the health and safety of you, our loyal patients and our responsibility to the greater community, and we must accept direction and guidance from Health and Regulatory Authorities.

While a large number of our practices will remain temporarily closed, we have a number of practices operating at some capacity.

We can still help you if you are experiencing any of the following:

    • uncontrolled dental/oral bleeding
    • facial swelling
    • acute facial or dental trauma
    • dental pain
    • acute or uncontrollable tooth ache
    • mouth infection such as an abscess
    • cavities that are extensive and causing pain
    • tooth fracture
    • chronic disease requiring treatment for your overall wellbeing and
  • medically necessary dental treatment, if specifically directed by your doctor

With the loosening of restrictions, we can now offer you the following treatments in addition to the above.

Examinations:

  • Simple non-invasive fillings without use of high-speed handpieces
  • Restorative procedures using high speed handpieces only provided with the use of rubber dam
  • Non-surgical extractions
  • Hand scaling (no use of ultrasonic scalers)
  • Medical management of soft tissue presentations (such as ulcers)
  • Temporomandibular dysfunction management
  • Denture procedures
  • Preventative procedures such as the application of topical remineralising agents e.g. fluoride
  • Orthodontic treatment

At this time, and for the duration of the Coronavirus crisis, unless unforeseen circumstances require further changes, the Totally Smiles centres listed below will be available to provide care for you in the event you require emergency treatment for the conditions listed above.

We look forward to seeing you again as life begins to return to normal. We want to thank our extraordinary team for their dedication to our patient’s wellbeing during this time.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Totally Smiles Team
